  1. When I get confused about the cross and it’s true purpose I read Luther’s 1518 Heidelberg Disputation. If you have not read this, there are several good English translations (I have the one by Harold J. Grimm) and you can also find online the original Latin along with some German translations that were probably made during Luther’s lifetime. I can’t read either of the latter two yet. I have no idea if there is an Icelandic translation, but I would be curious to know if there is.

P.S. As a native speaker of English (only English) I really appreciate your posts. I spent a couple of days trying to find information about the Icelandic church before I found your blog. It has been really helpful in trying to understand the present-day outlook in Iceland. Your English is very clear and has shown me the advantages of learning other languages. In America it is easy to assume that everything we need is in English, and we neglect the way that learning another language can help us understand other perspectives.
